Day 9

My day was pretty hectic.

In the morning I was in Palazzo and Guardaroba which I loved! All of the visitors were really chatty and wanted to tell me their life stories which I enjoyed.

Most of the people coming in were Australian and American so unfortunately/fortunately I didn’t get to use my new amazing Italian language skills which everybody loves.

So my day was pretty easy and fun until after lunchtime. Then it alllllll changed.

I was on rotation float which means standing in PC1 every hour at 50 minutes past so that people can rotate. I also had to listen out for “Taxi in arrive” so I could run upstairs and greet the people and take them to the ticket office.

The first taxi people I had to collect was a man and his blind wife which took aaaaaaaaaaages (understandably) but I ended up being late for rotaation.

The next taxi wasn’t actually a taxi but a couple who had clearly just rented a boat and decided to drive it to the Guggenheim.

I had to go out and shout that parking isn’t allowed but they could park outside of next door which they did. Only they couldn’t get very close to the jetty because Venetians like to have random wooden polls sticking out of the canals every now and then.

Another problem was that their boat was about a meter lower than the jetty so I really didn’t think they would bother trying to get out. But they did.

And it took so so so so long with me thinking that they were definitely going to fall in and what would happen if they did? Is it my job to rescue them? Would I be responsible for them drowning?

But by some miracle the guy eventually managed to get up and then drag his stiletto wearing wife up on to the jetty with him. It wasn’t the most graceful of disembarks and probably not what they were imaging when they decided to hire out a boat.

They complained the whole way to the ticket office saying it was too far away. They came in the back entrance! What did they expect??

Then I had to run to PC1 because it was rotation time and THERE WAS A WOMAN SITTING AT PEGGY’S TABLE!!

I was in shock (I later heard from Robert that my face was quite a picture)

It’s probably the worst thing you could do at the PGC. I had no choice but to scream at the stupid woman.

This probably doesn’t sound very stressful and manic to you but if you knew the amount of stairs I had to run up and down you would totally understand!

In the evening there was a snazzy party going on and the PGC was packed full off people in sharp black suits wearing sunglasses at night. (I really don’t know how they coped. I kept bumping into everyone because they were all camouflaged against one another.)

It was a party for Hangar Design Group who had just won an award for sustainable eco housing or something like that and the party was to launch their catalogue. I got Giulia to steal me one so maybe one day when I am able to read Italian I can browse through the book and let you know what it’s all about J

I had the fun job in the evening of being on rotation which meant I basically sat in the student room and did nothing for 5 hours. It was still better than guarding TES!

I treated myself to an ice-cream from Grom on the way home. Mmmm over priced gelato.
