(Wow has it been 10 days already?)
I started off my day by having a meeting with Dr Rylands himself because he wanted to know more about my course. It was pretty intimidating talking to him one on one in his amazing office but it was fine beacuse he’s just so nice.
I was then ‘floating’ all morning so I went to the library to do research on my 10 minute talk which I have to do on the 17th to the public.
I have chosen this beauty to talk about:

Unique Forms of Continuity in Space - Umberto Boccioni 1913
I love it.
I had to give someone a break at 12 when they were in TES1 and I was standing next to the Jeff Koons sculpture when all of a sudden a man screamed because he thought I was part of the sculpture!
I found this rather insulting because I do not think I look anything like a kitsch sculpture.

Buster Keaton - Jeff Koons 1988
At 1 I had my lunch and because I knew I had the horrible task of guarding TES all afternoon I treated myself to tiramisu in the cafe J

It was the size of my face! Not bad for €3.
And then I was in TES all afternoon. I decided that my activity today was to look at all of the pieces and decide which was my LEAST favourite.
So here you go:
TES1

Untitled - Haim Steinbach 1944
I don't actually mind this one but it doesn't quite match up to the other great works in the room.
It is just a colander and a soap dispenser shaped like a duck called 'Mr Cool'. Steinbach is commenting on the post-industrial society where form (and apparently subtle erotic looks) outweighs the utility and functionality of the object itself.
I think Steibach takes shopping at IKEA far too seriously.
TES 2 (I picked two works as TES2 is quite big)

Untitled - Jannis Kounellis 1936
I normally quite like Jannis Kounellis' work because it's unusual but this is just stupid.
It's an egg on a shelf on a black circle stuck on a painted black square. That is all the placard says about it.

Four Designs for a Fountain in Honor of the Painter Balla 1961
I just don't get it.
TES 3

Giulio Paolini - 'Elegy' in a Dual Scene 1972
This is supposedly a geometric drawing. It looks like a childs drawing to me and it's massive so takes up an unnecessary amount of space.
TES 4

Rona Pondick - Dog 1998-2001
This is just freaky. Look at it! Imagine walking in to a room and having that right in front of you! It makes me feel uncomfortable.
As a concept I like that it's contemporising the mythological hybrid but the juxtaposition of the rough realistic human parts against the smooth body of the dog just doesn't gel with me.
(I'm quite impressed with the long words I just came out with. I sound like I know what I'm talking about!)
TES 5I know you're probably expecting me to say that 'Zeroros' ("Zero, zero, zero, zero, zero...") is my least favourite piece but I actually quite like it as an artwork. As something I have to listen to for an hour I hate.

Giovanni Anselmo - For a Notch in an Indefinite Number of Thousands of Years 1969
This stick grosses me out but it's mainly my own fault. The first time I was guarding TES 5 I was wondering what artwork I would like to lick at the PGC (as one does) and when I thought about licking this disgusting stick covered in grease and vaseline it made me feel quite ill. So now whenever I see it I imagine licking it and I don't like it.
I can't even bring myself to research what it's about.
Tomorrow's blog will be about the amount of abuse I get whilst working at the biglietteria.
It's going to be a looooong day.
